Advice on looking for work

Newspapers and Websites

Locally based newspapers and websites are the best primary source  (apart from word of mouth) of information when looking for work.

Specialist industry websites are great if you are looking for a role in a specific sector.

WorkingHolidayMaker.com TIP!

Google the industry and the location you will be working in and see what the search reveals. Generally, specific industry recruitment sites will rank highly on the first page or two of the Google search. For example, try searching ‘Bar Jobs in London’ or ‘Teaching English in Argentina’.

Recruitment Agents

The process for finding a job through a recruitment agent will differ according to the country you are in. In Europe and the UK, recruitment agents focus on matching you with an employer. They generally work much harder for the candidate in order to find them a role.

In Australia or New Zealand the recruitment agents role is significantly different as they tend to work more closely with the client rather than the candidate.

Specific casual recruitment agents, such as for light manufacturing or seasonal work (harvesting and fruit picking) and casual administration will sign you up and will generally work hard to get you a position. However, to make it easier for them, tailor your CV to meet particular types of work.
