Indonesia is a South-East Asian country that shares a border with Malaysia, Papua New Guinea and East Timor. The country is made up of more than 17,500 islands, has 34 provinces and a population of more than 238 million people.
Formerly part of the Dutch empire, Indonesia declared its independence following World War II in 1945.
Today, the country has one of the world’s fastest growing economies and is part of the G-20 and Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN). It is a vastly diverse country that represents several different cultures, with the main ethnic groups being Javanese and Sudanese.
The Work and Holiday visa arrangement between Australia and Indonesia allows holiday and travel between the two countries for Australians.
Under the arrangement, university-educated Australians aged between 18 and 30 are allowed to work and holiday in Indonesia for up to 12 months.
The arrangement was introduced with the aim of strengthening cultural exchange and widening economic ties and links between the two countries.

If you want to travel to Indonesia under Work and Holiday arrangements, there are several eligibility requirements. These include, but are not limited to:
Hold an Australian passport
Meet health and character requirements
Be aged between 18 and 30 at the time of applying
Have no dependent children accompanying you
Have a return ticket, or sufficient funds for a return or onward fare
Have sufficient funds for the first part of the holiday.
A letter of approval from the Australian Government supporting the application

The letter of government support can be issued by the ACT and Regions Office in Canberra, where the following details must be provided:
Certified copy of a valid passport
Certified copy of one other form of identification with current residential address
Certified copies of the applicant’s tertiary qualifications, a letter from the university confirming the level of study or originals of academic transcripts.

Taxation in Indonesia strongly supports its large contingent of poorer citizens with low rates of 0% to 5% catering for this section of the population. Bank Account
Opening a bank account as an expat in Indonesia requires several pieces of documentation, including: passport, proof of residence and proof of employment. Each bank account will usually include a debit card and option to open a savings account.
The major banks in Indonesia include: Bank Mandiri, Bank BCA and Bank BNI. Several foreign banks also operate in Indonesia, such as ANZ and HSBC.
